On 18 October, the day finally arrived: Mapo Tofu, the last pup of the summer seal pup season, returned to the Wadden Sea. Mapo Tofu’s adopters have kindly made his release certificate available for auction. We are incredibly grateful to them for offering us this special opportunity and supporting us in this way.
Mapo Tofu was only a few days old when he was spotted near the Dollard in June. After a period of observation, it became clear that his mother was no longer around to care for him. Mapo Tofu had lost 2 kilos, so he was brought into the WEC for rehabilitation.
However, his time in our care was not without its challenges. He spent no less than four months at our rescue centre and underwent two operations during that time. Mapo Tofu was a much-loved seal, and we are absolutely delighted that he is now back where he belongs: the Wadden Sea.
